0.  Guantanamo inmates appeal detention to top court (Washington Post)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some of the Guantanamo prisoners have been unlawfully detained for more than five years and deserve at least a hearing on their challenge to their confinement, their attorneys said on Monday in an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

1.  U.N. Criticizes U.S. Detainee Policy (CBS News)
U.N. human rights chief Louise Arbour has reiterated the organization's concerns over the rights afforded to prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center. She says recent rulings deny prisoners the basic right to challenge their detention.

2.  Man stunned by Vista deputies' Taser dies at hospital (North County Times)
VISTA -- The family of Martin Mendoza, an Oceanside man critically injured Sunday when Vista deputies twice used a stun gun during a struggle, turned the life support machines off Wednesday night after doctors told them he showed no brain activity.

A federal appeals court in Washington ruled yesterday that a U.S. citizen in U.S. military custody in Iraq has the right to challenge his detention in a federal court.
